'I had to stop and reflect .... and then I had to do it'
In this body of work Flora looks at the material for its personal meaning as well as its relationship to ideas of individuality, uniformity, information given and taken. She is also interested in the change which occurs with each day and the correlation between each day in one country and another.
Her choice to collect newspapers from different countries in which they have been written and printed is so to keep their originality and the feeling of their origin. Each piece is constructed exclusively from the papers of a specific country. Looking to imprint their individuality in the 'visual texture' which is unique to each country; Flora unifies them all through the recognizable shape of the butterfly. Chosen because of its symbolic meaning; the butterfly shares similarities in fate to that of newspaper in both its lifespan and fragility.
The painterly effect created on the surface of the pieces is based purely on the kind of newspaper being used. "
